New wine description:
This noble droplet comes from one of the highest vineyards of its homeland and was elaborately harvested by hand. The production is limited and includes 1117 bottles with a capacity of 0.75l, 60 bottles of 1.5l, 12 bottles of 3.0l as well as 6 bottles of a considerable 6 litres.
A glorious, bright golden yellow bathed its view, full of promise and lustrous quality.
The 2020 Riesling Basalt is a majestic revelation of minerality. Smoky, rocky aromas emerge undisguised, venturing from the bottle and virtually demanding elegant decanting. Noticeable notes of fennel, chamomile and vervain give the wine character and intensity, while fruity hints of kumquat and grapefruit are still restrained in its youthful state. With further maturation, however, these will certainly emerge and gain in intensity. A first impression that raises the expectation for further tasting!
Salty and full of power, the wine rushes over the tongue before unloading all its strength and striking minerality in a taste explosion. A wine to bite into that promises a long finish on the tongue. It still requires a little patience until it reaches full maturity, but its full splendour is already emerging. Once again, the combination of a lot of craftsmanship and the particularly individual character of Odinstal has made it into the bottle. Great!
For the premature connoisseur, the recommendation is to decant the wine over several hours and serve it from lavish glasses.
Try a light, smoked beetroot salad with fresh wild herb mix and grapefruit wedges. Alternatively, a Swedish quark tart with aniseed, rounded off with lemon zest and smoked salmon. For the fish lover, pocket crayfish with a hollandaise sauce, refined with sorrel, could provide the ideal taste experience.
