Info about the wine
The hand-picked grapes for this mineral Chardonnay, which was specially vinified for the first time in the 2015 vintage, come from the approximately 0.4 hectare "Bergschmallister" vineyard in the lower part of the Joiser Tannenberg, where the slate is overlaid with a lot of lime. An ideal location for Chardonnay.
Color
Light golden yellow with silvery reflections.
Nose
The 2021 Ried Bergschmallister Chardonnay from Jois is still somewhat reserved due to its youth. The intense character of the mineral soil on which it was grown is clearly recognisable. Notes of ignition flakes and fine spice from ageing in small wooden barrels skilfully capture its aroma. It demands the carafe, then spoils us with firm pear, fine citrus fruit, fresh apple and quince.
Palate
It grips the palate with plenty of grip. The fruit is juicy and the flavour striking. Wonderful apple and pear flavours are added, as well as notes of meadow herbs. Its Burgundian, finesse-rich finish is characterised by clear minerality and a piquant tannin that makes you want to accompany complex cuisine.
Be sure not to serve it too chilled in a larger glass!
