Wine information

Pommard is located between Beaune and Volnay, where the Côte de Beaune makes a slight bend towards Autun. These lands used to belong to the Dukes of Burgundy and the Abbey of Cîteaux. The appellation, one of the first to achieve AOC status in 1936, produces only red wines from Pinot noir. The 1.1 hectare small parcel of the Pommard 1er Cru "Clos Orgelot" "is one of the most famous areas of Pommard", wrote Dr. Denis Morelot in 1831 in his "Bible" about the vineyards of Burgundy. This famous vineyard has an exceptional location just above Pommard Epenots between Les Pézerolles and Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Mouches". The vines from 1921,1990 and 1993 stand at an altitude of 310 meters in a mixture of clay and limestone. After hand harvest, partial destemming and spontaneous fermentation, the wine was aged for 18 to 22 months in Pièces and Tonneaux expanded. The share of new wood was around 12 %.

slightly transparent intense ruby red

The "Clos Orgelot" seems a bit more transparent than the "Pommard Village", furthermore red berry, brighter and a bit fresher. Here it is sour cherries, currants and blood oranges including peel that set the tone. At the same time, the wine clearly smells of forest and stones. There are tree bark, undergrowth, forest floor and rock flour as well as a little sandalwood, smoke and Indian spices. This comes across as complex and demanding in a pleasing way. Around a juicy warm fruit core cool flavours circle.

On the palate, there is a hint of fruit sweetness, further power and a certain opulence, but this is largely captured by the acidity and the structure created by the present tannin. Overall, however, the wine seems somewhat warmer on the palate than on the nose, the acidity ripe and silky. In addition to the soft structure and the dark fruit, the light tannin is most evident here. goût de campagneThis is the wine that gives the red wines of the Domaine, in addition to all finesse and elegance, a grounded character and is almost archetypal for Pommard, especially with the slightly animal notes.
