Strong ruby red with garnet reflections.

Nose

The 2017 Phanus Palhete from Aphros Wines is a reminiscence of an old style of wine that was once reserved for the fine gentry. It is traditionally made from a blend of Loureiro and Vinhao and vinified together. In this case, both grape varieties were cold fermented in the amphora, which was sealed with beeswax. Wet chalk, bruised red berry fruit, light tobacco and red stone fruit on the nose.

Mouth

On the palate it is gripping with firm tannins, juicy-cool fruit and a grippy feel. It was bottled after seven months in 80-year-old amphorae and traditional Alentejan maturation under olive oil. The tightly woven tannins are pleasantly disciplined by the filigree loureiro. The acidity is exemplarily integrated and supports this exceptionally tactile experience on the palate. Old school in a new guise.
