Colour & Appearance

Luminous golden yellow with greenish reflections that underscore the youthful freshness of the 2022 vintage. In the glass, it displays brilliant clarity with an enticing viscosity.

Nose

A captivating interplay of aromas featuring ripe apricot, honeydew melon and peach, underpinned by delicate notes of orange blossom and acacia honey. The biodynamic viticulture reveals itself in the crystalline fruit expression. Subtle botrytis notes lend complexity, whilst a mineral slate spice provides tension.

Palate

Despite the opulent sweetness of 8% alcohol, this wine remains remarkably light-footed and elegant. The racy Rheingau acidity forms the perfect counterbalance to the concentrated fruit. On the palate, layers unfold of candied citrus fruits, quince and mirabelle plum, carried by a vibrant minerality that springs from the Lenchen terroir. The texture is silky, almost creamy, yet never heavy.

Finish

Remarkably long and precise. The sweetness fades harmoniously, whilst the saline minerality and a fine citrus bitterness linger for minutes to come. A wine of great finesse and ageing potential.

Terroir & Origin

The VDP Grosse Lage Lenchen in Oestrich ranks amongst the historic top vineyard sites of the Rheingau. The south-facing aspect and deep loess soils over Taunus quartzite provide ideal conditions for noble Auslesen with characteristic minerality and elegance.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Biodynamic Riesling cultivated according to Demeter standards, hand-harvested in multiple passes. Peter Jakob Kühn has worked consistently biodynamically since 2004 and allows his wines time for natural development – an approach that manifests itself impressively in the precision and vibrancy of this wine.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Classically with blue cheese such as Roquefort, outstanding with foie gras, apple strudel or crème brûlée. Also a delight with spicy Asian dishes such as Thai curry or Peking duck.
