Tasting note
Weinberghof Fritsch is one of the lighthouse wineries in Wagramer. The approximately 25 hectares of vines are cultivated exclusively according to biodynamic guidelines to ensure the greatest possible expression of terroir and origin. The Wagram is the longest elevation in Austria and is strongly characterised by loess, which predestines it as an origin for first-class Grüner Veltliner. Karl Fritsch is a member of the winegrowers' association Respekt biodyn.
The Grüner Veltliner Ried Steinberg comes from the steep vineyard of the same name with soils of slate and granite. The vines come from 13- to 63-year-old vines that stand on a southeastern exposure at 240 metres above sea level. The wines are harvested exclusively by hand and then fermented spontaneously in stainless steel for four to eight months.
Color:
Bright yellow with radiant reflections.
Nose:
With rich yellow fruit on the nose, it brings together fully ripe plump pears, yellow apples and green apricots in a woven wicker basket. Fresh kitchen herbs and some honeycomb complete the overture in both a spicy and balsamic direction, ground black cumin and dried sourdough crumb as well as a cranky, light-coloured tobacco leaf provide aromatic polish and depth.
Mouth:
The 2022 Ried Steinberg Grüner Veltliner from Weingut Fritsch is juicy with a firm bite. With sludgy fruit and tart framing, it is aromatically joyful, the acidity restrained and ripe. With saline extract and a creamy texture, one glass after another flows down the gullet. An exceptionally versatile all-rounder whose range of use extends from acute thirst to a well-set table.
Food pairing suggestions
- Snack with good cheese (Vegetable & Vegetarian)
