Wine Description for Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes AOC 2023 1500ml Magnum by Rémi Jobard
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale lemon yellow with green reflections, radiant and clear – the youth of the 2023 vintage is reflected in the luminous brilliance.
- Nose
- Generous and forthcoming, this Premier Cru presents itself with a fascinating interplay of aromas. Yellow apple, lemon blossom and mandarin merge with a distinctive saline minerality. To this are added brioche, salted butter and lemon curd, underpinned by fresh herbal notes such as sorrel and chervil. A shimmering bouquet that deserves time and large glasses.
- Palate
- Here the true greatness of this wine reveals itself: rich and full-bodied, yet sinewy and tautly structured. The vertical acidity and the mineral framework lend the wine impressive definition – nothing flabby, everything precisely contoured. The power is athletic, not clumsy, and the structure already sketches out considerable ageing potential. Nevertheless, the wine is already accessible now and delivers great drinking pleasure.
- Finish
- Long, mineral and carried by saline freshness, with lingering citrus notes and a fine melting quality that the magnum bottle promises.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Premier Cru vineyard site Les Charmes lies at the southern edge of Meursault, adjoining Puligny-Montrachet, at 260–280 m elevation with south-easterly exposure. The stony limestone marl with a high proportion of flint shapes the mineral character and gives the wine its characteristic tension between fullness and freshness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Chardonnay from biodynamically farmed vines, strictly yield-controlled and selectively hand-harvested. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, twelve months ageing in large Stockinger barrels and used pièces (maximum 20% new), followed by six months in stainless steel tank. Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur addition.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Scallops with butter sauce, lobster or langoustine, turbot with champagne sauce, Poulet de Bresse with morels, sweetbreads in cream, mature Comté or Beaufort d’Alpage.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle promises even more harmonious development and longer ageing potential. Rémi Jobard counts among the most precise producers in Meursault – his wines combine Burgundian tradition with biodynamic finesse.
