The four-hectare steep slope Maustal south of Sulzfeld has a south-southeast orientation and consists of sparse and skeleton-rich shell limestone. The old Riesling vines produce well-balanced wines that have always been fermented dry in the Luckert house in double oak from Franconian oak without any tangible residual sugar or cheeky fruit. The wines require time and are true long-distance runners.
Color
Bright yellow, bright and clear.
Nose
The 2020 Riesling Maustal Großes Gewächs from Zehnthof-Luckert presents itself on the nose with distinguished restraint. With great calm and balance, it manages without superfluous grape variety markers or similar ornaments. The Riesling is chosen as a transporter for the Franconian terroir of sparse shell limestone, which demands a certain amount of attention from the inclined drinker. Aromas of white pepper, citrus, vetiver and grapefruit are indicative of a spicy, distinctive Franconian sip.
Mouth
Tart on the nose with fine phenolic and fine-grained animating tannin. The ripe, driving acidity builds up decent pressure on the palate and gives it immense thrust. The spicy nose is aromatically reflected on the palate, with grapefruit squeakily docking with the wine's phenolically tart structure. With a solid appearance and saline structure, it convinces with a striking bass in the long finish.
