Info
Aristotelian philosophy and medieval alchemy were the inspiration for this cuvée of Traminer & Veltliner. Characterised by the interplay of the four elements water, air, earth and fire. The interplay weighs more than the sum of its individual parts. Earth was the dominant part in 2021 in the form of harmony and depth.
The perfect, healthy grape material was fermented spontaneously on the mash in concrete vats. An elemental wine in its original state, at rest and yet in motion.
Color
Discreetly cloudy, bright golden yellow
Nose
I have been accompanying this wine by Karl Fritsch for several years. The brilliance that is exuded on the nose sets a new reference in this microcosm. It smells like Andalusia to the orange blossom. It is wonderfully floral and delicate. Paired with some fresh juice and plenty of zest in all facets of abrasion, candied and wonderfully fragrant. Discreetly, some rosehip and red apple mingle with the fruit. Above all, the tart skin of the apple comes into its own. Oregano and sage provide an invigorating note. Colourful pepper adds a little spice.
Palate
On the palate, it shines through fully. The fine fruit with its sunny, floral and pleasant accents is convincing. It is underpinned by a present but well-dosed tannin. These bitter substances provide it with backbone, character and identity. A pleasantly balanced acid structure enlivens it. The spicy aromas are hardly noticeable in the finish. However, its Mediterranean herbs and citrus fruits do.
