Wine description for Marsannay rouge „Les Longeroies“ AOC 2023 by Bruno Clair

Character
Marsannay is the northern gateway to the Côte de Nuits – often overlooked, rarely underestimated by those who look closely. Bruno Clair’s „Les Longeroies“ embodies the quiet self-assurance of this appellation: not a Grand Cru that boasts of its name, but a wine that convinces through precision, terroir authenticity and artisanal integrity. At 13.0% alcohol, it remains lean and purposeful – a Pinot Noir that places elegance above opulence.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site „Les Longeroies“ lies in the heart of Marsannay, on calcareous, clayey soil – typical of the slopes of the Côte de Nuits. The 2023 vintage was characterised in Burgundy by early warmth and sufficient rainfall, which produced ripe, aromatically expressive wines with well-integrated structure. Marsannay itself is one of the few Burgundy appellations to receive village wine status (AOC) only in 1987 – a late, but well-deserved recognition process for a terroir with its own character.
Grape variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir in Marsannay is not a given, but an obligation. Bruno Clair, one of the most renowned estates of the Côte de Nuits, practises a traditional, understated cellar approach: gentle extraction, careful handling of oak, respect for the fruit. The result is wines with fine tannin structure, vibrant acidity and an expression that lets the terroir speak – not the winemaker. The wine presents itself dry, with only minimal residual sugar.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The structured lightness of this wine makes it a versatile table companion. Classically, it harmonises beautifully with Coq au Vin or Boeuf Bourguignon – dishes that share the same cultural soil. Equally recommended: grilled lamb rack with Provençal herbs, mushroom risotto or a mature Époisses from the neighbourhood. Those who prefer something simpler will be equally delighted with charcuterie and Comté.
