Wine description for Marsannay rouge „Les Longeroies“ AOC 2022 by Bruno Clair

Character
Bruno Clair ranks among the most respected producers in northern Burgundy, and his Marsannay „Les Longeroies“ impressively embodies the finesse of this often underestimated appellation. The wine displays that Burgundian elegance for which the domaine is renowned: precise, transparent and with a clear sense of origin. The 2022 vintage, shaped by heat and drought, yields concentrated yet never heavy wines – Clair’s signature ensures balance and drinkability.
Terroir & Origin
Marsannay forms the northern gateway to the Côte de Nuits and only achieved its own AOC status in 1987. The vineyard site „Les Longeroies“ lies at the southern end of the commune, near Couchey, on calcareous clay soils with excellent drainage. Here wines are produced with greater structure and depth than in many other Marsannay sites – a kind of bridge between the accessibility of village wines and the complexity of Premier Crus. The cooler microclimate of the northern Côte preserves freshness and acidity, even in warmer vintages.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir finds ideal conditions here: cool enough for elegance, warm enough for ripeness. Bruno Clair works with minimal intervention, relying on natural yeasts and a moderate proportion of new oak barrels. The house philosophy: let the terroir speak, not the winemaking technique. Ageing takes place traditionally in Burgundian pièces, with Clair always maintaining the balance between fruit, structure and freshness. At 13% alcohol, the 2022 displays that classic restraint which makes Burgundian wines so age-worthy.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion for refined everyday cuisine: excellent with Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherries or aged Comté. The structure also carries lamb rack with herb crust, whilst the freshness pairs beautifully with mushroom dishes and terrine de campagne. A wine that shines equally with roasted pigeon or a simple Bœuf Bourguignon.
