Wine description for Pinot Noir 2021 from Loimer
Colour & appearance
Restrained in the glass with a muted ruby red colour that is interspersed with fine plum reflections - typical of a cool vintage from the Kamptal.
Nose
Impressively precise and multi-layered. At first, fragrant wild raspberries and blueberries appear, underpinned by floral notes of wild roses and violets. With air, fascinating nuances of graphite, Mediterranean herbs and subtle hints of white pepper develop. A Burgundian character with an Austrian identity.
Palate
The true mastery of this Pinot reveals itself on the palate: Taut, precise and carried by an invigorating freshness. The moderate alcohol structure (12% vol.) gives the wine an almost Burgundian transparency, while the fine-grained tannins provide structure without dominating. The fruit is always present, but never overpowering - a sign of precision craftsmanship. The finish is of considerable length and reveals subtle spicy notes.
General information
This Pinot Noir perfectly reflects the terroir diversity of the Kamptal, where Pannonian heat meets cool Waldviertel air currents. The combination of Gföhl gneiss, brown earth and partly limestone layers gives the wine its mineral structure. The selective hand-picking, long maceration period and spontaneous fermentation with 100% whole grapes in wooden vats emphasise Loimer's minimalist approach. The 18-month maturation in oak barrels and the unfiltered bottling preserve the complexity.
Food pairing suggestions
A versatile food companion that harmonises particularly well with Roast duck breast, Mushroom risotto or baked salmon. The fine acidity structure also makes it the ideal partner for dishes with sweet components such as Pumpkin ravioli with sage or Roast beef with cranberries.
Special features
A remarkable representative of Austrian Pinot Noir artistry that perfectly captures the finesse of the 2021 vintage. Loimer demonstrates his fine feeling for the grape variety here by keeping power and elegance in perfect balance. The moderate alcohol content emphasises the drinking pleasure, while the structured acidity promises ageing potential for at least 5-7 years. A wine that bridges the gap between Burgundian tradition and Austrian terroir expressiveness.
