Colour & Appearance

Luminous cherry red with ruby reflections, medium intensity. In the glass, it displays a clear, brilliant texture that speaks to the youthfulness of this Rioja.

Nose

Expressive and multi-layered. Initially dominated by ripe red cherries and blackberries, followed by notes of violets and Mediterranean herbs. Beneath this lies a fine minerality and hints of graphite, which lend the wine depth. With aeration, subtle nuances of liquorice and black pepper emerge.

Palate

Powerful yet elegantly structured. The wine presents itself with a vibrant acidity that harmonises perfectly with the ripe tannins. On the palate, the fruit aromas from the nose are mirrored: dark cherries, plum compote and a spicy component. The 14.5% alcohol is perfectly integrated and lends the wine body without heaviness. Remarkable is the balance between power and finesse – typical of Artadi’s modern Rioja style.

Finish

Long and persistent with fine fruit sweetness and a pleasant mineral freshness. The tannins remain present but supple, leaving a silky impression.

Terroir & Origin

La Hoya comes from a single vineyard site in Rioja Alavesa, the northernmost part of Rioja. Artadi, a pioneer of site-specific winemaking in the region, cultivates old Tempranillo vines here on chalky clay soils that give the wine its characteristic minerality.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Tempranillo from hand-harvested grapes. Artadi deliberately eschews new barriques and instead relies on used French oak barrels to avoid masking the fruit and terroir characteristics. The ageing is conducted respectfully with minimal intervention.

Food Pairing Recommendations

An excellent companion to grilled lamb, duck breast or Iberian pork. Also an outstanding choice with Manchego cheese or mushroom dishes.
