    The Story of Guillaume Sorbe

Guillaume Sorbe, the talented winemaker behind the estate Les Poëte, has deep roots in the Reuilly appellation in the Centre Loire. As the son of a winemaker who also worked as a chef and sommelier, Guillaume laid the foundation for his own winery in 2001. Today, the estate spans 17 hectares, with only 6.45 hectares planted with vines. The rest? A beautiful piece of nature, populated by animals. La Revue du Vin de France praises the wines from Les Poëte as some of the most ambitious in the Centre Loire.

An Independent Spirit on His Journey

Guillaume could have taken over the family winery Jean-Michel Sorbe in Brinay. But he decided to forge his own path. After the sale of the family winery in 1999, he studied hotel and catering management as well as sommellerie in Bourges. His career began in gourmet restaurants, later as a sommelier in renowned establishments. In parallel, he tended his grandfather’s vines and studied oenology in Beaune. In 2007, he finally founded his own Domaine Les Poëte, honouring his grandmother’s maiden name, Esther Poëte.

    An Ecosystem Called Les Poëte

Guillaume pursues an ecological and holistic approach. He believes in biodiversity and has therefore planted not only vines but also horses, sheep, bees and chickens on his estate. His vineyards are spread across 28 parcels, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc.

    The Art of Winemaking

In Guillaume’s cellar, each of the 28 parcels is vinified separately and with minimal intervention. Most wines ferment in stainless steel, whilst younger creations such as Le S des Poëte and Pouilly-Fumé mature in tank and partly in barrel. Particularly noteworthy are the crus, which mature in 400- and 600-litre barrels and only reach the market three years after harvest. The Pinot Noir, which is fermented as whole bunches, is especially remarkable as it is the only wine in the range with a wood imprint.

Sorbes wines are consistently sensual, powerful and expressive. Le S des Poëte radiates this sensuality, whilst the Pouilly-Fumé captivates through its intensity. The Toison d’Or is an outstanding Pinot Gris, and the Odyssée, a Pinot Noir, demonstrates the impressive potential of this variety in the region.

Les Poëte is not merely a winery, but a testament to Guillaume’s passion, commitment and pursuit of perfection. It is a place where tradition and innovation go hand in hand to create extraordinary wines. Les Poëte: Moins Mais Mieux (Less, but better)
