The Elektra comes from an old Veltliner vineyard in Jois called Lindauer. Extremely calcareous, this site produces distinctive wines with expressive minerality. Harvested by hand and then fermented traditionally in wooden barrels and matured for 12 months on the lees.
Color
Golden yellow with a silky-matt cloudiness.
Nose
The 2022 Elektra from Nittnaus is a contemporary interpretation of the variety that is increasingly plagued by heat. The nose oscillates like a kaleidoscope between yeast and piquant fermentation aromas, finely oxidised pome fruit and mild spicy notes such as fermented pepper. Herbaceous and tart, hops, chervil and must, then floral notes again. Dazzling and constantly changing.
Mouth
Taut on the palate with finely contoured phenolics and an aromatically tart framing. Good grip with animating astringency and stimulating bitterness, only the heart notes of apple, pips and peel instead of rich juice. Wonderfully unexcited, this is a Veltliner without high polish, instead silky matt to hammer blow. Animatingly tart tonic with a rapid drinking flow.
