Wine Description for Grüner Veltliner Elektra 2022 by Nittnaus Anita & Hans

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with a silky matte haze – a deliberately unfiltered wine that eschews fine filtration and thereby appears authentic and vibrant in the glass.
Nose
A kaleidoscopic Veltliner that refuses the smooth high-gloss aesthetic. The nose shifts fascinatingly between yeast notes and piquant fermentation aromatics, subtly oxidised stone fruit and mild spices such as fermented pepper. These are joined by hop, chervil and must, then again floral hints. A wine in constant flux, which translates the climatic challenges of the 2022 vintage into its own distinctive style.
Palate
Taut attack with finely contoured phenolics and aromatically herbaceous framing. Excellent grip through invigorating astringency and a stimulating bitter tone. Here the heart notes of apple dominate – cores and skin rather than juicy flesh. The texture recalls hammer-struck metal: silky matte, unpolished, authentic. An invigorating tonic with rapid drinkability that prioritises complexity over approachability.
Finish
Clean, herbaceous and refreshing with sustained mineral precision. The phenolic structure carries far and leaves a revitalising, slightly bitter aftertaste.
Terroir & Origin
From the historic Veltliner vineyard site Lindauer in Jois on Lake Neusiedl. The extremely calcareous soils impart expressive minerality and lend the wine that distinctive character which sets it apart from more approachable interpretations of the variety.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested Grüner Veltliner, traditionally fermented in wooden barrels and aged for 12 months on full lees. This classical method imparts additional texture, complexity and that shimmering yeast aromatics which make it so compelling.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with golden beetroot carpaccio with goat’s cheese and salted almonds, grilled fish with cucumber salad or spicy grilled chicken skewers Moorish style. The herbaceous structure harmonises beautifully with spiced and aromatic dishes.
Special Characteristics
A deliberately unconventional Veltliner that unites naturalness and drinkability – without high-gloss polish, but with soul and sense of place. A contemporary response to the climatic challenges of our time.
