Tasting Notes for Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc Spätfüllung DAC 2020 by Sattlerhof
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale yellow with distinct green highlights.
- Nose
- Seductively aromatic and crystal-clear in expression. Fresh notes of gooseberry, lime, stinging nettle and lemon balm combine with a subtle hint of green pepper, underpinned by a stony, cool minerality.
- Palate
- Cool, spicy and exceptionally refreshing on the palate. A stimulating acidity structure meets fine tannins. At a lean 12.5% ABV, the wine displays immense drinkability and taut energy.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes originate from the cool high-altitude sites of the renowned village appellation of Gamlitz in Southern Styria (Südsteiermark). The steep slopes are characterised by poor, calcareous soils such as Opok marl and sand.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The term “Spätfüllung” (late bottling) refers to extended maturation on the fine lees in the Sattler family’s cellar, lending additional substance to the wine.
- Food Pairings
- Outstanding as an invigorating aperitif and a wonderful match for roasted Mediterranean vegetables, herb salads or dishes featuring fresh peas and asparagus.
- Key Features
- The extended contact with the lees imparts remarkable balance and multi-layered elegance to the classic Styrian freshness.
