Wine Description for Dorsheim Riesling “Eierfels” 2022 by Diel

Colour & Appearance
Radiant golden yellow with vibrant green reflections – a wine that promises energy and depth from the moment it touches the glass.
Nose
Initially closed and introverted, the “Eierfels” unfolds into a remarkably multi-layered bouquet after decanting. Cool herbal notes take centre stage – wild mint, nettle and a distinctive leitmotif of tarragon. With air, precise fruit notes emerge: grapefruit, lemon zest and crisp Granny Smith apple, rounded off by a discreet hint of blackcurrant. A wine that rewards patience.
Palate
On the palate, the “Eierfels” displays power and precision. The herbal spice – above all tarragon and anise – emerges even more distinctly than on the nose. A pronounced, almost saline minerality carries the wine, whilst a peppery grapefruit note provides tension and freshness. The wine possesses clear focus and impressive length – a Riesling with many years ahead of it.
Finish
Long, spicy and characterised by fine minerality. The herbal notes linger persistently, the finish remaining fresh and invigorating.
Terroir & Origin
The “Eierfels” combines the vineyard sites Goldloch and Burgberg from the Dorsheim vineyard on the Nahe – a region whose slate soils impart to Riesling that characteristic tension and minerality which distinguishes it from other German wine regions.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Riesling, gently pressed and fermented with natural yeasts. Maturation in multi-year large wooden casks of native oak – a traditional approach that promotes complexity without over-shaping the wine. At 12.0% alcohol and only a whisper of residual sweetness, the style remains dry and taut.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An ideal companion to aromatic cuisine: lamb rack with herb crust, grilled sea bass with fennel, goat’s cheese with wild herb salad or a classic bouillabaisse.
Special Features
The “Eierfels” is vinified in the spirit of a Großes Gewächs – a vineyard wine with genuine ageing potential. Those who open it today should decant. Those who wait will be rewarded.
