Wine information

The Grand Cru site Les Bressandes is located exactly in the middle of the Corton hill below Clos du Roi and Les Renardes. Together with Clos du Roi, it is considered the best Grand Cru site on the Corton hill. The 1.12 hectares are divided into four plots, and the soil is characterized by bajocium and Oxford limestone with pebbles, clay and a high iron content. The Corton-Bressandes comes from vines that are on average 35 years old. The wine was fermented spontaneously in the wood cuve with a proportion of 40 to 50 % whole grapes, then gravity fed into the barriques and tonneaux with a small amount of new wood. This was followed by around 14 months of ageing without further agitation. The filling took place with minimal sulfur mostly directly from the barrel.

slightly transparent garnet red

Nose

The 2018 vintage of the Corton-Bressandes opens with a concentrated and complex melange of dark fruit notes, earthiness and underbrush. Blackberries are present here as well as plums, dark raspberries, honeysuckle and peony, some smoke, bacon fat, moss and wood, dry earth and fresh juicy notes of blood oranges, also lime and some salt.

Palate

On the palate the grand cru opulent and powerful, is at the same time supple, elegant and as complex as its excellent origin deserves. The Corton-Bressandes is a Pinot noir with a concentrated core of dark ripe fruit, with spice from the lime and the wood with also here slightly meaty and bacony flavours, with much undergrowth and a present supple and fine-grained tannin as well as with lively acidity. The Pinot fills the palate, always remains precise as well as structured and is full of tension and mineral liveliness.
