Wine Description for Burgundy „Clos de la Perrière“ Rouge Monopole AOP 2021 by Clos du Moulin aux Moines

Colour & Appearance
A transparent crimson red that reveals the elegance and finesse of this Pinot Noir already in the glass – typical of a Burgundian red wine without excessive extraction.
Nose
The wine initially presents itself as reductive with smoke and blackcurrant, lending it a certain reserve that demands time to breathe. With air contact, seductive notes of ripe raspberries and wild strawberries unfold, accompanied by undergrowth and leaf litter. Cool mineral and lichen notes underscore the mineral character of this unclassified monopole vineyard site.
Palate
On the palate, the reductive character initially continues before the wine opens up. Sour cherries and plums meet leaf litter, undergrowth and herbal notes. Mint and pepper provide spice, whilst hints of iron emphasise the mineral structure. The vibrant acidity and fine, balanced tannins lend the wine tension and drinkability.
Finish
Medium-length with persistent fruit and herbal notes, carried by refreshing minerality.
Terroir & Origin
The monopole vineyard site „Clos de la Perrière“ lies between Corpeau and Puligny-Montrachet – an unclassified vineyard that far exceeds its official status. The stony subsoil shapes the cool minerality and lends the wine its characteristic tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir from selective hand-harvesting, largely destemmed. Slow fermentation with vineyard-native yeasts in cement, followed by one year of ageing in Pièces and Tonneaux with a maximum of 15% new oak. Unfiltered, unfined and bottled with minimal sulphur – a wine that prioritises authenticity over cosmetics.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Excellent with Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherry sauce, grilled tuna or mushroom risotto. Also an excellent choice with mature Comté or Époisses.
Special Features
A monopole Burgundy with considerable potential at a fair price. The moderate alcohol content of 12% vol. and natural vinification make it an authentic, terroir-driven wine that rewards patience.
