Wine information

The Clos du Bourg is located above the church of Vouvray and covers six hectares surrounded by an old stone wall - hence "Clos". It is one of the oldest Grand Cru parcels in France. It was already mentioned in the 7th century. The flat soil of the vineyard consists of clay with flint and chalk inclusions. It is situated on a typical Turonian tuffeau limestone rock. Here, the vines reach the tufa after only one metre.

Nose

The vineyard that Gaston Huet was able to acquire as the last of his three sites at the end of the 1950s has always been the most complete for him, because in a way it balances the lightness and dancing of Haut-Lieu with the dark smokiness and somewhat more lush fruit of Le Mont. This is also the case with the 2021 vintage. The Clos du Bourg is an impressively full, deep and complete wine, pure and clear in its fragrance. It is reminiscent of a meadow orchard with apples, some pears and flowers, seasoned with a few pieces of ripe pineapple and some kumquat.

Palate

On the palate, the Chenin Blanc spreads to every corner, becoming deeply aromatic and juicy with a ripe but dancing acidity. The wine appears bright and clear with tension and pressure. Although it has power and fullness, it seems to dance and float, but also earthy again with notes of topsoil and tobacco. The acidity is precise as well as brilliant and continues well into the long finish. The Clos du Bourg is a multi-layered and vibrantly alive representative whose limestone vein you can almost physically feel. In addition to all the fine spiciness and minerality, one also enjoys the juice of crisp pears, apples, pineapples and apricots, a fine saltiness and the implied spiciness of kumquat peel and bitter oranges.
