Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rosé AOC 2023 by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Powerful, intense rosé with luminous orange reflections – far removed from the pale Provence aesthetic. This colour depth already signals: substance awaits in the glass.
Nose
An aromatic fireworks display: white peach and nectarines dominate, accompanied by fine-leafed basil and distinctively bitter accents of blood orange and pink grapefruit zest. Beneath shimmer mineral and saline notes reminiscent of wet pebbles – the sea is palpably present.
Palate
Juicy and seductive on the attack, then uncompromising: the opulent fruit from the nose continues 1:1, but is defined by bitter citrus peel and white mesocarp. The creamy texture and viscous mouthfeel make it unmistakably clear – this is a serious wine, not a light-footed summer drink. Joyfully fruit-driven with saline backbone and pulsing minerality.
Finish
Mediterranean, lingering, with salty freshness and echoing stone fruit. The Mourvèdre dominance demonstrates its structure-giving power here.
Terroir & Origin
The vines thrive in an amphitheatre opening towards the sea at 300 metres altitude – a privileged site that guarantees cool breezes and optimal ripening conditions. Proximity to the Mediterranean shapes the wine with its saline minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 65% Mourvèdre and 35% Cinsault, hand-harvested at low yields of just 27 hl/ha. The Cinsault is pressed directly for fruit-forward notes, the Mourvèdre destemmed and pressed for structure. Fermentation in stainless steel, followed by six months in wood – unusual for rosé, but crucial for complexity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with Spaghetti Vongole, braised rabbit with apricots and sage or a summery salad with peach, mozzarella and basil. A rosé that also stands up to more robust dishes.
Special Features
One of the most serious rosés of Provence – Bandol-typical with substance, structure and ageing potential. Not a terrace wine, but a food companion with ambition.
