Wine Description for Chambertin Grand Cru 2017 by Trapet Père & Fils

Colour & Appearance
A clear, luminous ruby red with delicate violet reflections at the rim.
Nose
The bouquet is aristocratic and profound. Intense aromas of sweet cherries and wild raspberries emerge, underpinned by a cool, stony minerality. With some air, nuances of liquorice, peonies and finest Ceylon tea follow.
Palate
On the palate, the full sublimity of Chambertin reveals itself. The wine appears dancer-like in its lightness and precision despite its power. The texture is carried by silky, highly elegant tannins. Flavour-wise, red forest berries dominate, along with a fine spiciness and a vibrant acidity structure that lends the wine enormous tension.
Finish
An infinitely long, almost floating aftertaste, characterised by saline minerality and a hint of noble dark chocolate. A monument to balance.
Terroir & Origin
Sourced from the privileged parcels of Chambertin Grand Cru. The sparse limestone soil imparts the wine with its proverbial structure and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir. In accordance with Jean-Louis Trapet’s philosophy, the grapes are tended biodynamically and never forced, resulting in an authentic expression of the grape variety.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An ideal companion to roasted pheasant, truffle pasta or a delicate venison loin with juniper crust.
Special Features
This wine is the result of a vinous double life: whilst Jean-Louis Trapet tends the heritage in Gevrey-Chambertin, his wife Andrée continues the family estate in Alsace. Their creed “Man passes, the soil remains” manifests itself in this Chambertin as liquid philosophy.
