Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or „Clos des Six Ouvrées“ Sans Sulfite Ajouté AOC 2022 by Rougeot Père & Fils

Character
A bold Chardonnay from Burgundy that treads the path of sulphur-free vinification – a philosophy that allows the wine to unfold without the usual safety net. The Rougeot family, rooted in Meursault for generations, demonstrates here artisanal confidence and a commitment to pure authenticity. The 2022 vintage, shaped by climatic challenges across Burgundy, demanded precise work in both vineyard and cellar.
Terroir & Origin
The Bourgogne Côte d’Or appellation encompasses parcels along the famous slope that stretches from Dijon to Santenay. The name „Clos des Six Ouvrées“ refers to a specific, walled vineyard site – an Ouvrée is a traditional Burgundian unit of measurement of approximately 428 square metres. The limestone soils of the Côte d’Or lend Chardonnay that mineral tension and freshness that distinguish Burgundian white wines worldwide. The continental climate with cool nights preserves the natural acidity structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay finds its purest expression in Burgundy – neutral enough to convey terroir, complex enough for great wines. The absence of added sulphur requires flawless grapes, impeccably clean work and often cooler fermentation temperatures. These wines thrive on their vibrancy and directness, often displaying greater fruit clarity and a certain vulnerability that underscores their authenticity. At 13% alcohol, the wine sits within the classical range, without modern overripeness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The natural vinification and Burgundian origin predestine this Chardonnay for classic French cuisine: Poulet de Bresse in cream sauce, scallops with butter, Comté or young Époisses. Also an elegant accompaniment to fish terrines, Quiche Lorraine or pan-fried turbot. The wine’s freshness pairs well with creamy textures and subtle spicing.
