Wine description for Auxerrois Quarz und Lehm 2024 from Michael Andres

Colour & appearance
Sparkling pale yellow with striking green reflections - a youthful, lively wine that already signals its freshness in the glass.
Nose
Inviting and complex, this Auxerrois presents itself with a bouquet of Pear, Quince and yellow apple. The fruity flavour is elegantly underpinned by spicy nuances: Vanilla, Anis and Dried ginger give the wine a fascinating depth that invites you to linger.
Palate
The 2024 reveals all its charm on the palate: juicy enamel meets fine seasoning and a grippy minerality, which clearly expresses the quartz and clay terroir. The texture is supple, the structure precise - a wine with substance and drinkability at the same time.
Departure
Medium-long, mineral-influenced finish with lingering fruit notes and a refreshing acidity that invigorates the palate and demands the next sip.
Terroir & origin
Michael Andres’ Auxerrois stammt aus der Pfalz, wo die Kombination aus Quartz and Clay in the soil gives the wine its characteristic tension between minerality and fullness. This soil structure characterises the balance of the wine.
Grape variety & vinification
Auxerrois, the often underestimated Burgundian grape variety, shows its full potential here. With a moderate 12.5% alcohol and dry vinification, Andres demonstrates a fine knack for elegance rather than opulence.
Food pairing suggestions
A versatile accompaniment to food: excellent with fried asparagus, Fennel and orange salad, Pikeperch in saffron sauce, Veal escalope with morels or matured Comté. Also a solo pleasure on the terrace.
Special features
A prime example of the excellent Price-performance ratio, that German winegrowers like Michael Andres offer. Auxerrois of this quality and at this price is worth discovering - authentic, characterised by terroir and simply delicious.
