Wine description for Xión 2023 from Attis Bodegas y Vinedos
Colour & appearance
In the glass, the Xión presents itself in a clear, brilliant platinum yellow with slightly greenish reflections that emphasise its youth and freshness.
Nose
A precise, cool bouquet of remarkable clarity. Initially, floral notes and lemon balm dominate, accompanied by green apples and the characteristic citrus peel. With a little air, a fascinating maritime component develops - salty sea spray and iodised hints that reflect the proximity of the vineyards to the coast. Subtle nuances of green almonds and fennel green lend additional complexity.
Palate
On the palate, the wine shows an impressive balance between taut, lively acidity and a subtle extract sweetness. The Precise minerality runs like a salty thread through the entire flavour. The fruit remains more in the greenish spectrum with citrus and crisp apples, while the lees ageing provides a subtle creaminess that gives the wine texture without compromising its freshness. The finish is medium-long, clean and characterised by a pleasant salinity.
General information
This single-varietal Albariño from the Rias Baixas growing region on Spain's Atlantic coast comes from younger vines, which are nevertheless traditionally cultivated as pergolas. The combination of granitic soil with a sand and clay layer gives the wine its characteristic minerality. Spontaneous fermentation and ageing on the fine lees contribute to the texture and complexity.
Food pairing suggestions
An ideal companion to Seafood of all kinds, especially Oysters, Clams and grilled squid. It also harmonises wonderfully with light fish dishes, Goat cheese and Ceviche. The savoury component also makes it the perfect partner for Tapas with seafood.
Special features
The Xión 2023 impressively demonstrates that even a so-called "entry-level wine" can have remarkable quality and character. It embodies the essence of Albariño from Rias Baixas: fresh, precise and with an unmistakable Atlantic character. A wine that prioritises authenticity over opulence, striking a remarkable balance between accessibility and depth.
