Wine Description for 82/16 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Chouilly Grand Cru by Vazart-Coquart & Fils

Colour & Appearance
Pale golden yellow with fine, persistent bubbles that bear witness to extended bottle ageing.
Nose
Fascinatingly complex: vanilla croissants and fruit bread meet almond cream and linden blossom. These are joined by lemon curd and the exotic note of yuzu. Despite the high proportion of aged reserve wines, the nose is remarkably fresh and vibrant.
Palate
Here the true class of this Champagne reveals itself: finesse and silkiness combine with impressive freshness. Ripe stone fruit notes and red berries harmonise perfectly with citric and zesty accents. The elegant acidity and refined mousse meld into a charming whole.
Finish
Long and multifaceted with fruity notes, a hint of vanilla, fine mocha and subtly toasted nuts. The autolysis notes integrate elegantly without dominating.
Terroir & Origin
Grand Cru vineyard sites in Chouilly, one of Champagne’s most renowned Chardonnay terroirs. The vines, averaging 45 years old, are deeply rooted in belemnite chalk, which provides mineral precision and elegance. The estate has been certified organic since 2020.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chardonnay from the Réserve perpétuelle (Solera), established in 1982. Each year 40% is drawn off and replenished – the last top-up took place in 2016, hence the designation „82/16“. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks with complete malolactic fermentation. Bottled May 2018, disgorged July 2022. Extra Brut with 0 grams dosage. Limited production of just 1,690 bottles.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect as an aperitif or with scallops, turbot in butter sauce, lobster, oysters, sushi and sashimi. Also an excellent choice with goat’s cheese or aged Comté.
Special Features
An authentic grower Champagne that masterfully implements the philosophy of the Solera method. The combination of 36-year-old aged wines with younger vintages creates extraordinary complexity whilst maintaining freshness – a rare feat.
