Tasting note
Colour & appearance
Medium ruby red, clear and inviting in the glass – even visually, the pronounced Grenache influence is evident.
Nose
A bouquet of ripe raspberries, wild strawberries and a hint of fig. These are joined by liquorice, Provençal herbs, a touch of dog rose and a fine earthy note. The whole-bunch fermentation shines through as a spicy, greenish stem character – lending the wine definition and tension.
Palate
A true charmer: supple, berry-fruited and remarkably balanced. The tannins are exceptionally fine, the acidity ripe yet lively. Almost slender in the best sense – a wine with freshness, grace and great drinkability, without any heaviness.
Finish
Mineral-driven, long and fresh – the stem notes bring additional vibrancy right through to the very end.
Terroir & origin
Adrien Roustan’s home is Vacqueyras, where he holds his largest holdings. For this wine, he selects the finest parcels from two very different terroirs: the Hautes Garrigues with their red clay-limestone bring finesse and minerality, while the Pendants with blue and yellow marl provide power and depth. The vineyard was planted in 1950 – old vines that one can truly taste.
Grape varieties & vinification
The blend: 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, plus 5% each of Cinsault, Carignan and Mourvèdre. The grapes are not destemmed, but crushed with whole stems and fermented promptly – maturation takes place in concrete. No new wood, no cosmetic interventions: just grape, terroir and patience.
Food recommendations
A versatile table wine in the best sense: ideal with chicken à la Provençale, equally so with a savoury tarte tatin aux tomates or rack of lamb with white beans and confit tomatoes. In magnum format, it is the perfect wine for a long table amongst friends.
Special features
Roustan has farmed organically since 2010 (certified since 2012) and has cultivated his parcels biodynamically since 2020 – entirely by hand, from pruning to harvest. He eschews oenological additives, using only a minimal amount of sulphur. The result is a Vacqueyras of rare lightness and vitality – far removed from the heaviness often associated with the southern Rhône.
