In the glass

  1. Colour

Pale onion-skin pink, with a fine shimmer in the glass.

  2. Nose

Grapefruit and blood orange meet red berries, peach and pink blossoms, accompanied by a hint of pepper and wild maquis herbs.

  3. Palate

Lively and juicy with crisp citrus fruit and primary red berry flavours; ripe, agile acidity provides drive, whilst fine mineral and herbal spice lends a pleasant grip.

  4. Character

A rosé with two faces – buoyant and inviting to drink, yet structured and serious enough for the dining table.

  5. Pairing

Mediterranean antipasti with peppers and olives, pan-fried sea bream with fennel, goat’s cheese salad with citrus dressing.

  6. Notes

Old vines of the indigenous island variety Sciaccarellu are rooted in granitic sandy soils at around 100 metres’ altitude; direct pressing, omission of malolactic fermentation and only light filtration preserve its cool freshness – the Demeter seal on the label attests to its biodynamic origin.

Tasting note

Colour & appearance
Pale onion-skin pink, delicate and luminous in the glass – the classic appearance of a direct-pressed rosé from typical Sciaccarellu.
Nose
Fresh and red-fruited, yet with surprising depth: grapefruit and blood orange, complete with zest and juice, alongside red berries, peach and pink blossoms. A hint of pepper and the spicy aromatic world of the maquis lend the whole a serious, Corsican note.
Palate
Lively and juicy, red-berry fruited and crisply citrus. The ripe yet agile acidity carries the primary fruit, while a fine mineral and herbal spice provides substance. Pleasant grip, dry, at a moderate alcohol level of 13.5% abv.
Finish
Cool, taut and with a saline-citrus length – a finish that makes you want to take another sip.
Terroir & origin
In the Taravo Valley in Corsica, at around 100 metres’ altitude, the vines grow on granitic soils. Jean-Charles Abbatucci works here biodynamically (Demeter-certified), using horse-drawn ploughs and a flock of sheep – viticulture in rhythm with nature.
Grape variety & vinification
100% Sciaccarellu, the quintessential Corsican grape variety, sourced from various parcels of old vines. Hand-harvested in the early morning, direct pressing, cool and slow fermentation, five months’ ageing in stainless steel – deliberately without malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness.
Food recommendations
A wine for the Mediterranean table: grilled sea bream, Salade Niçoise, ratatouille, herbed goat’s cheese or antipasti with fig salami – perfect wherever freshness and spice are called for.
Special features
The Sciaccarellu comes from a varietal treasure trove that Antoine Abbatucci saved from extinction in the 1960s. The range is named after his daughter Faustine – and the wine itself demonstrates what rosé can be: not just a terrace wine, but a Corsican character with maquis aromatics, grip and a genuine sense of place.
