Wine Description for Entre Palabras – Between Words 2021 by Valdemonjas

Colour & Appearance
Luminous cherry red in the glass, clear and transparent – a wine that already hints visually at its origin from the high-altitude vineyard site.
Nose
Remarkably fresh and mineral, almost cool in character. The aromatics tend towards red fruits rather than dark berry opulence – a welcome departure from the overripe Ribera cliché. A hint of vanilla from barrel ageing lingers, yet the oak note remains discreet and perfectly integrated. The balance is spot on.
Palate
Here the true nature of this Tempranillo reveals itself: mineral, taut, precise. The fruit comes crisp and direct, the tannin presents itself chalky and fine-grained, never rustic. Despite considerable concentration and 14% alcohol, the wine feels remarkably lean and tense. A youthful restraint is unmistakable – the aromatics remain somewhat closed. Yet it is precisely this austerity that lends the wine its clear contour and definition. Absolutely decant or aerate generously.
Finish
Linear and mineral, with lingering freshness and fine tannin grip. The wine bids farewell not with pomp, but with elegance and precision.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted at just under 800 metres altitude in Ribera del Duero on calcareous soils. This combination is the key to understanding the wine: the altitude preserves the acidity, the limestone provides the mineral signature. Organically certified.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Tempranillo, fermented in steel and concrete tanks, aged in oak barrels of varying sizes. The vinification follows Valdemonjas‘ philosophy: freshness over power, precision over extraction.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The mineral structure and fine-grained tannin harmonise beautifully with lamb tagine, braised lamb rack, beef pot roast or aged Manchego.
Special Characteristics
A Ribera del Duero that deliberately swims against the current: fresh rather than opulent, elegant rather than powerfully structured. A wine with ageing potential that already convinces through its clear definition.
