When Alejandro Moyano Alvarez discovered the Valdemonjas estate in the 115-strong community of Quintanilla de Arriba in 1997, there were no vineyards there. It was sugar beet that grew there, and in the middle of the so-called Golden Mile that runs from Peñafiel to Tudela de Duero, which is barely 20 miles long and has wineries such as Pesquera, Pingus, Aalto, the Hacienda Monasterio and Vega Sicilia along it. Alejandro was able to acquire the estate for little money. Today, visions are combined there with skill, experience and a knack for finding the right advisors. Alejandro brought in oenologist Luca d'Attoma in 2011 and had Norman Foster integrate a winery with outstanding, sustainable architecture into the vineyards in 2014. As young as the winery is, one can already clearly see how much perfection is present here.
