Colour & Appearance

Clear, luminous cherry red – transparent and precise, without any heaviness in the glass.

Nose

The nose greets you with an almost cool elegance: red cherries, pomegranate and a hint of wild strawberry dominate, accompanied by a fine, almost alpine minerality. A subtle suggestion of vanilla reveals the barrel ageing, yet remains ever in the background – serving, never dominating. Somewhat closed still, yet this very restraint piques curiosity.

Palate

On the palate, a Tempranillo unfolds that has decidedly rejected opulence and extravagance – and is absolutely right to do so. Taut, focused and driven by vibrant acidity, it displays fine-grained, chalky tannins of remarkable elegance. The fruit is crisp and precise, the texture lean and tense like a well-tuned bow. Despite considerable concentration, the wine remains light-footed and possesses a genuine drinking flow.

Finish

Long, saline-mineral and marked by pleasant freshness. The minerality resonates and lends the finish a clear, almost stony dignity.

Terroir & Origin

Valdemonjas’ vines grow at just under 800 metres elevation in Ribera del Duero on calcareous soils – a combination that gives the wine its characteristic freshness and acidity structure. The continental climate of the Meseta, with hot days and cool nights, is palpable in every sip.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pure Tempranillo, organically certified. Fermentation in steel and concrete tanks, maturation in oak barrels of varying sizes. The result is a wine that understands wood as a tool, not an end in itself. Before enjoying, adequate aeration is recommended – the wine opens noticeably with time and air.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Classically and convincingly with lamb tajine – the spiced depth of the dish harmonises wonderfully with the wine’s mineral tautness. Equally recommended with grilled lamb chops, Ibérico charcuterie or a robust Manchego.
