Wine information
The Sernau König vineyard is a great STK site. It is south-southwest facing, protected by forest at an altitude of 500 metres. The soil is characterised by gravel with sandy overlays. The Sauvignon Blanc was left to macerate for two days, fermented spontaneously to 1.1 grams of residual sugar, matured for 24 months in large neutral wooden barrels on fine lees, and then bottled unfiltered.

Nose
Besides the Zieregg is the Sernau King the second grand cru in the Tements' portfolio. During the Zieregg has long since become legend, you can Sernau King Sauvignon Blanc as a true shadow chancellor; for it is in no way inferior to the goodness of the Zieregg, it is just different, due to its other sites and soil conditions. This 2019 vintage is still bloody young, but ravishingly fine and punchy. It seems a little more gooseberry than its counterpart, shows lots of cassis and grapefruits, limequats and some juniper, peach and green as well as yellow apple, stone and fennel.
Palate
The palate develops the Sernau King An impressive vibration, it appears mineral, clear, energetic, exciting and focused on a lively fruit and acid structure with fine hints of herbal spice and rock. Typical for the Tements is an extended maceration period, which adds salinity to the already lively acidity and has an enormously watering effect on the mouth. A melange of salt lemons, light pome and stone fruit, a few raspberry and nettle leaves, fennel greens and grapefruit zest, crushed lime and broom is revealed in a lively and deep Sauvignon Blanc that is still young but extremely promising.
