Wine Description for Ried Sernau König Sauvignon Blanc Große STK Lage 2021 from Tement

Colour & Appearance
Powerful, luminous straw yellow with silvery rim – a wine that already signals depth and seriousness in the glass.
Nose
Those who bring patience will be rewarded. After an initial, profound reduction – decanting is recommended, and generously so – a multi-layered aromatic panorama unfolds: orange zest and orange blossom set the tone, flanked by yellow kiwi, passion fruit leaf and tomato leaf. These are joined by red gooseberries and a hint of pink grapefruit – a Sauvignon Blanc that refuses to settle for clichés.
Palate
The entry on the palate is of positively electrifying precision. A vibrant, peppery acidity runs like a taut bow from the first sip through to the finish. The gripping, austere phenolics give the wine contour and backbone – cedary-spicy, with citric-herbal grip. Not a gram of excess fat, no detail left to chance.
Finish
Long, vital and precise. The wine confidently shows its rear lights and improves noticeably over days in the open – a sure sign of quality and substance.
Terroir & Origin
The Große STK vineyard site Ried Sernau König in South Styria impresses with deep, limestone-free scree soils – unusual for the region and decisive for the aromatic clarity and taut minerality of this wine. The 26-year-old vines deliver concentrated, selected grape material of exceptional depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sauvignon Blanc from organically farmed vineyards (AT-BIO-402). Spontaneous fermentation, followed by 28 months of ageing on fine lees in large oak barrels – a maturation that ensures complexity and longevity. Unfiltered, sealed with glass cork. 14.0 % Vol.
Special Features
A Sauvignon Blanc that redefines the type: not a crowd-pleasing quaff, but a serious wine for cellaring with the potential to develop over many years. Those who drink it young should bring time – and the largest glasses in the house.
