Rösler

Rösler is an Austrian hybrid variety from 1970 – a cross between Zweigelt and a red wine variety called Seyve-Villard. The vine was bred primarily for its resistance to fungal diseases, making it particularly interesting for organic viticulture. It produces deeply coloured wines with robust structure and pronounced tannins.

In Austria’s Weinviertel region, Johannes Zillinger works with this grape variety and demonstrates that Rösler can be far more than a functional disease-resistance solution. His wines have depth and character, without the sometimes rustic edge of many hybrid varieties.
