Rösler

As an Austrian crossing, the Rösler grape variety brings a fascinating depth and robust vitality to the domestic wine landscape. This fungus-resistant variety is characterised by a deep, dark colour and a striking aromatic profile defined by dark wild berries and fine spice. Rösler naturally possesses a firm tannin structure and an animating acidity, making it an ideal partner for characterful cuvées that thrive on structure and freshness.

Just how lively and unconventional these characteristics can be interpreted is demonstrated by Weinviertel winemaker Johannes Zillinger. In his red Solera cuvée, he combines Rösler with Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon to create a tart, wonderfully uncomplicated red wine full of freshness. He also relies on the variety for his rosés: in the pale Solera blend, Rösler brings structure and a fine, animating grip to the glass alongside Sankt Laurent and Syrah.
