petit manseng
Also known as: Manseng Blanc (Béarn), Petit-Mansenc (Jurançon)
A white wine grape that one wouldn’t typically associate with South Tyrol – yet Manincor has planted it in the heights of Kaltern and produces a late harvest wine with that mineral tension which Petit Manseng also displays in its homeland, Jurançon. There the grape remains on the vine until November, developing high sugar levels and an acidity that gives structure to the sweetness. Here it becomes a rarity: Corzano e Paterno in Tuscany is also experimenting with this variety.
