Color
In light lemon yellow with light white-golden reflexes the wine shows itself clear and shining in the glass.
Nose
With a delicate, restrained reduction, this Silvaner from Rheinhessen initially appears as shy as a wallflower. Only after quite some time it lets its crisp, mainly green fruit run its course. With enough time and some oxygen exchange, say day two, this then turns completely free.
Crisp kiwi, green-yellowish gooseberries, as well as fresh turmeric, star fruit and white currants dress this Silvaner far from the dusted robe that is often put over it in Franconia. Flavors of green almonds, chopped currant bush and oak leaves give it additional freshness.
Palate
On the palate, the 2018 Niersteiner Silvaner from Kai Schätzel has the manner of a neat, uncomplicated bon vivant. With its crisp acidity, slender body and low alcohol content, it is only too tempting to enjoy a light buzz in good company. Completely renouncing on baroque hip fat, his nature is rather sparse and steely.
