Wine information

The Areore is a cuvée of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Friulano from the Gjats and Stradele vineyards. In principle, it takes up the tradition of the Gemischter Satz, as the grapes are harvested at the same time and fermented together. However, they are not planted together in one vineyard, as the grape varieties are planted separately. 1.6 % of the wine comes from dried Friulano, as was also customary in the past. Chardonnay and Sauvignon come from the Stradele vineyard with alluvial soils of calcareous-dolomitic origin. The second vineyard is Gjats, the home of the Tocai Friulano, which is rooted in a loamy and less calcareous soil. 40 % Chardonnay, 30 % Sauvignon Blanc and 30 % Tocai Friulano were used. Starting with the Tocai Friulano, the grapes were destemmed after hand-picking, crushed and gradually transferred to the press, where they macerated at a controlled temperature until the evening. Alcoholic fermentation took place with the help of selected yeasts from a Pied de Cuve from the vineyard at a controlled temperature, first in steel tanks and then in tonneaux. The wine has undergone partial malolactic fermentation naturally. The Areore matured for 28 months on the fine lees, first in tonneaux with some new wood, then in steel tanks.

Nose

The 2020 Areore is an intensely flavoured wine that does not conceal the presence of Sauvignon Blanc. It is reminiscent of mint and menthol, honeysuckle and a hint of nettles. There are also notes of noisette, nuts, almonds, peach and kumquats, a little wood, vanilla and smoke. It is complex and both elegant and inviting.

Palate

This impression continues on the palate, because in addition to the flavour, the interplay between ripe acidity, creamy texture and fine saltiness is also impressive. There are also tart zests, plenty of juice, a little malt and a fine hint of wood, which already contribute to the balance in the flavour.
