Colour & Appearance

Luminous, rich golden yellow – brilliantly clear in the glass, with a depth that visually hints at its substance.

Nose

The nose unfolds with remarkable precision: citrus fruits in all states – from delicate citrus blossom and fresh grapefruit to candied orange peel. This is joined by ripe quince, a touch of braised pineapple and mild spicy notes. The elegant finish is formed by an unmistakable flake of salted butter – crystalline, salty, irresistibly precise.

Palate

Salt – that is the first and loudest word this wine speaks on the palate. No whispering, no hesitation: a savoury, clear opening with real character. The fruit – above all grapefruit and its essential oils – follows confidently and effortlessly stands up to the salty foundation. Terroir & Origin

The grapes come from a terraced hectare in the Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg in the commune of Katzenthal in Alsace. The north-easterly exposure and the sandy, granitic soils are the secret behind this crystalline minerality and pronounced salinity. Vines with an average age of around 45 years – this is not youth, this is depth.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Single-varietal Riesling, organically and biodynamically cultivated by Domaine Albert Mann in Wettolsheim – an estate with roots dating back to the early 17th century. Each parcel is vinified individually, and the wine is vinified dry. At 13.0% abv, it shows a ripe but by no means heavy side of the 2022 vintage.

Food Pairings

Virtually predestined for oysters with grapefruit – salt meets salt, citrus meets citrus. Equally brilliant with langoustine carpaccio with citrus and olive oil. For the more adventurous: involtini of spring chicken with fresh goat’s cheese, preserved lemons and pomegranate seeds – a dish that fully exploits the complexity of this Riesling.
