Wine Description for Riesling Wineck-Schlossberg Grand Cru AC 2022 by Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Deep golden yellow with brilliant clarity – a wine that already displays its maturity and concentration in the glass.
Nose
Crystalline and precise. The aromatic spectrum spans the entire range of citrus fruits – from blossom through fresh peel to candied orange peel. Added to this are quinces, stewed pineapple and a hint of salted butter. The saline minerality is already distinctly perceptible here and lends the wine an almost electrifying tension.
Palate
Uncompromisingly salt-driven. The first impression on the palate is characterised by an almost aggressive salinity, which gives this Grand Cru its unmistakable profile. Grapefruit and its essential oils provide the fruity counterpoints, yet remain consistently piquant and taut. No concession to pleasing sweetness – instead extract, phenolic structure and impressive depth. A Riesling with backbone, one that demands time and space.
Finish
Long, saline-mineral with persistent citrus spice. The salinity dominates through to the end, leaving a vibrant, almost electrifying aftertaste.
Terroir & Origin
The Wineck-Schlossberg in Katzenthal is a terraced Grand Cru vineyard site with north-east exposure on sandy granite soils. These crystalline soils shape the wine through their characteristic minerality. The vines, approximately 45 years old, are cultivated by Domaine Albert Mann according to organic and biodynamic principles.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Oysters with grapefruit, langoustine carpaccio with citrus or involtini of Maipoularde with goat’s cheese and salt-preserved lemons – the wine demands dishes that can embrace its salty intensity.
Special Characteristics
A Grand Cru that places terroir above accessibility. Domaine Albert Mann has united winemaking tradition since the 17th century and is today a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Alsace. This 2022 vintage is a prime example of the crystalline precision of Wineck-Schlossberg.
