Color
Bright straw yellow with luminous reflections, radiant and clear.
Nose
The 2016 Riesling Ölberg Großes Gewächs from Kühling-Gillot is already very accessible on the nose, almost talkative. It tells of ripe yellow fruit like nectarines, yellow apples, tangerines and orange peel, closely followed by green tea, green almonds and a piece of milk chocolate. The fruit is well balanced by the terroir notes of the red weathered soil in the Mount of Olives, which condenses into mild spice notes of cinnamon blossom and white pepper.
Mouth
Firm on the nose with a powerful mid-palate and driving minerality, it is ripe with fine-grained tannin and flows towards its destiny with contouring phenolics as well as saline minerality. With tremendous thrust on the palate, its power is buffered by the fine spicy minerality of the red weathered soil. Complex and profound, it shows itself in constant change with increasing contact with the air and is iridescent like a chameleon during a light show. The slightly exotic fruit is serving, never the leading theme, and passes the time until the wine will have reached its full maturity. Attention endurance runner!
