Wine information

The Sulz vineyard site is a self-contained, fairly warm basin with clayey Opok calcareous marl soils. The site lies at an altitude of 380 to 490 metres. The Kriewetz sub-site, which features chalky-limestone rock formations, is the oldest parcel, with vines dating back to the 1960s. The wine was spontaneously fermented to a residual sugar level of 1.5 grams with 6.0 grams of acidity; it was then aged on its fine lees for 24 months in neutral barriques and bottled unfiltered.

Colour

Pale golden yellow with slight green reflections

Nose

The Morillon from the Sulz vineyard site possesses a completely distinctive nose, initially reminiscent above all of herbs and vegetables with a hint of fennel. However, this note gives way to ripe oranges along with their zest, as well as a touch of lemongrass, yellow apple and light tobacco. All of this is underpinned by crushed stone. The Chardonnay appears supremely elegant, with depth and substance.

Palate

On the palate, the Morillon reveals itself as a powerful, highly elegant and refined wine. At first, one might detect a hint of red berries, followed by a trace of wood and tobacco, even a suggestion of juniper, along with dried garden herbs and dried fruit. On the palate, a creamy texture combines with a touch of tannin to create a silky sensation. The Chardonnay is impressively deep, long, charming and remarkably juicy. The acidity does not initially seem particularly prominent, yet it balances the wine to perfection. This wine has true stature!
