Wine Description for Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes AOC 2022 by Rémi Jobard
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous golden yellow with greenish reflections, brilliant clarity – a Meursault that displays its youth and freshness in the glass. The medium viscosity suggests concentration without heaviness.
- Nose
- Precise and multi-layered: white flowers, hazelnut and fresh butter combine with citrus fruits and a hint of flint. The minimal new oak usage reveals itself discreetly with fine brioche notes, without dominating the fruit. With aeration, acacia flowers and a subtle salinity develop.
- Palate
- Here the true class of Les Charmes reveals itself: creamy texture meets vibrant minerality. Yellow stone fruits, almonds and a fine lemon zest are carried by a taut acidity that gives the wine structure and tension. Two winters in barrel have created remarkable complexity – the wine is simultaneously rich and elegant, powerful and delicate.
- Finish
- Long, mineral and persistent. The saline minerality dominates the aftertaste, accompanied by roasted hazelnuts and a fine herbal whisper. A wine that invites you to the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- Les Charmes ranks among the most coveted Premier Crus of Meursault. The mid-slope position with its calcareous clay soil gives the wine its characteristic combination of fullness and finesse – less opulent than Perrières, but with irresistible charm.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay, made unfiltered. Rémi Jobard’s purist philosophy shows in the vinification: only 20% new barrels, complemented by 600-litre Stockinger half-barrels, which preserve the wine’s elegance and minerality. The long barrel ageing over two winters replaces technical interventions with natural stability.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A wine for discerning pairings: lobster in butter sauce, pan-fried scallops, turbot with morels or Bresse chicken with cream sauce. Also a revelation with aged Comté or Beaufort.
- Special Features
- Traditional family winery since the 16th century. The 2022 vintage displays remarkable balance and freshness despite climatic challenges – a wine that already brings pleasure now, but also possesses 5-10 years of ageing potential.
