Wine information
The Bret brothers own 0.54 hectares in the Climat Les Longeays in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The fantastically situated vineyard lies at an altitude of 210 metres directly next to Les Quarts in a south-southeast orientation and has 38-year-old Chardonnay vines on partly ferruginous clay and limestone soil from the Bajocium . These are long-lived, well-balanced wines that are produced there. Hand-harvested on 25 August 2020, whole bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, then ageing for 17 months, initially in pièces for eleven months and then in barrels with 100 % malolactic fermentation. The added sulphur is 50 mg/l depending on the barrel.
Color
medium straw yellow
Nose
The 2020 Les Longeays is a lively, bright and fresh Chardonnay, which moves in the spectrum of limes, lemons and their peels as well as that of broom, some jasmine and verbena, green pears and green plums, rounded off with clear lime.
Palate
On the palate, the Pouilly-Vinzelles builds up quite a bit of pressure, still seems a bit cooler and a bit firmer than in the last two years. Ripe and unripe almonds can be found here as well as the already mentioned, mainly citrus fruit notes, which relate to the lively acidity, while the long yeast ageing provides suppleness and elegance on the palate. In the finish, there is a little rock salt and the finest tannin, which adds to the reputation of the Les LongeaysThe wine more than lives up to its reputation of being a very good textured wine.
