Wine Description for Pommard “Clos des Roses” Monopole AOC 2022 3000ml Double Magnum by Rougeot Père & Fils

Character
The Clos des Roses is a Monopole – a single vineyard site in the sole ownership of the Rougeot family, which in Burgundy stands for exceptional terroir authenticity. This Pommard embodies the powerful, yet never clumsy side of Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune. The 2022 vintage produced concentrated, fresh wines despite climatic challenges. The double magnum promises majestic ageing potential and will develop over the years that Burgundian complexity which collectors cherish.
Terroir & Origin
Pommard is regarded as the most masculine village of the Côte de Beaune – the wines possess more structure and depth than their neighbours from Volnay. The iron-rich, clay-laden soils impart a characteristic minerality and longevity to the Pinot Noir. The Clos des Roses benefits from optimal exposure and the microclimate-shaped protection of an enclosed vineyard site. Rougeot Père & Fils manage their parcels with the respect that traditional Burgundy families show the land – sustainably and with an eye towards future generations.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir finds ideal conditions in Pommard to combine concentration with elegance. Vinification follows Burgundian traditions: gentle hand-harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels. The moderate alcohol content of 13% speaks to balance rather than over-extraction. The Rougeot family understands how to maintain the equilibrium between fruit, tannin and acidity – a wine that rewards patience, yet remains accessible in its youth.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A Pommard of this stature demands appropriate companions: Bœuf Bourguignon, Coq au Vin or rare-roasted entrecôte with shallots. Game dishes such as venison medallions or braised rabbit also harmonise beautifully. Mature cheeses such as Époisses or Comté provide a classic conclusion. The double magnum makes this wine the ideal centrepiece for festive tables.
