Geology of the region
Our taste journey takes us to the Tuniberg, a unique geological wonder that owes its existence to the Upper Rhine Graben formation. What emerges here is an exclusive Jurassic limestone that is otherwise only found on the borders of Switzerland. The entire area is covered by glacial loess, although the southern part is somewhat thinner, which means that the vines can root right into the Jurassic limestone. The rest of the area is dominated by fertile loess-loam soils.

Processing
The 2018 vintage was an exceptional blessing for winemaking. The grapes were harvested by hand and subjected to a 10-day maceration with few whole bunches. The must then matured for a year in French oak, followed by a year in steel tanks and finally in bottle. Bottling in spring 2020 was accompanied by coarse filtration and a total sulphur content of 30-40 g, without additives or fining agents.

Colour
The eye perceives a restrained, elegant garnet red.

Aroma
The 2018 Pinot Noir SR, produced by the talented winemaker Klaus Vorgrimmler, reveals an elegant and perfect maturity in its bouquet. It unfolds aromas of blackberries, sweet cherries and wild raspberries, mingling with forest leaves, tobacco and graphite. Wild herbs and floral notes round off the bouquet wonderfully, giving the wine a lively and fresh impression.

Taste
On the palate, the wine delivers what the nose promises: it is lively and fresh, the tannin is wonderfully ripe, silky and invigorating. The salty minerality in the finish makes the connoisseur think of the multi-layered terroir. An exceptional wine with a high quality-price ratio that draws us into the world of Burgundy and shows us what true craftsmanship in winemaking means - a true masterpiece by Klaus Vorgrimmler.

Food pairing suggestions
This palate pleaser is perfect with dishes such as mushroom tartare with argan oil and sea salt served with crusty baguette, quail with lentils and a touch of raspberry vinegar, or slow braised lamb shank accompanied by root vegetables.
