An elegant, delicate red wine of international standing. With its moderate 12.5% ABV, this dry Pinot Noir relies fully on Austrian freshness, a Burgundian feel and a fine structural tension that manages entirely without heavy extraction.

Terroir & Origin

Located on the Wagram, about 60 kilometres west of Vienna, the vines are rooted in a striking fossil coastline of the Tethys Ocean. The Ice Age loess deposits, interspersed with lime-rich marine sediment, serve as a natural water reservoir. Karl Fritsch, a founding member of respekt-BIODYN and a dedicated champion of biodynamics, embraces the principle of guidance in the vineyard to bring the terroir of these south-facing loess terraces unadulterated into the glass.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pinot Noir is considered the noble flagship discipline within the estate’s range of varieties. While Fritsch senior had to take the gamble of being one of the first to plant red wine on the Wagram in the mid-1960s, this 2021 vintage displays the ultimate maturity of this tradition. The variety translates the estate’s living soils into a delicate interplay of red fruit, lively acidity and a subtle mineral nuance.

Food Pairings

Thanks to its fresh acidic structure and elegant texture, this Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with classic pan-roasted duck breast, tender pink-roasted saddle of venison, pheasant, or served slightly chilled alongside refined dishes featuring porcini mushrooms and braised root vegetables.
