The Domaine Chandon de Briailles was founded in Savigny les Beaune in 1834 and has been managed by François de Nicolay and his sister Claude since 2001. Since 1998, the vineyard has been worked exclusively organically until 2005, when the next step was the conversion to biodynamics. After a conversion phase, Chandon de Briailles has been completely certified biodynamic since 2011. The estate is cultivating 14 hectares of its own vineyards and is exclusively planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay - with one exception.
The Pinot Blanc vines for La vie est Belle were already planted by François de Nicolai's grandfather. For him Chardonnay is the only measure of all white wine, he has developed the Pinot Blanc without further ado as an orange wine in the style of a natural wine. Spontaneous fermentation after a long maceration period and subsequent maturation on the lees before it was bottled unfined and unsulphured.
Color
Bright orange with silky opacity.
Nose
La vie est Belle" also makes its name a motto in the nose and recalls the morning walk home after a blissful night, past the bakery. Fresh fragrant yeast plait with a light icing, croissants with orange marmalade, toasted hazelnut slivers and neat salty butter. The fluffy pastry is complemented by herbaceous notes of sage, lemon balm and bitter orange zest.
Mouth
On the palate, the fine and persistent tannins dominate at first, stimulating like a hot cup of Darjeeling. Silky with animating astringency, they define the appearance on the palate, dress it completely and also take the lead aromatically. Delicate toasted notes are reminiscent of salt-buttered dark toast, the orange marmalade ready to hand in the small bowl apart. Soft electronic music pulsates in the background, the first rays of sunlight fall through the blinds. Life is beautiful.
