Wine Description for Ambre Jaune Riesling Macere 2021 by Trapet Alsace

Colour & Appearance
An intense, clear golden yellow – luminous and inviting, with a depth that already hints at the maceration time. Despite the vibrant colour, the wine appears transparent and lively in the glass.
Nose
The nose surprises with remarkable subtlety and elegance. Delicate notes of vanilla, fresh lemon and lemon zest open the bouquet, accompanied by ripe apple and its skin, along with a cool, green note of ivy. A hint of saffron lends the whole a seductive spice. With air and some warmth in the glass, deeper layers unfold: black tea and wax come to the fore, hinting at considerable complexity.
Palate
On the palate, the Ambre Jaune reveals a fascinating interplay between opulence and freshness. The skin maceration lends the wine a distinctive yet refined phenolic texture, which envelops the mouth beautifully without overwhelming it. The aromatics recall the expressive spiciness of Gewürztraminer – and yet the body remains remarkably lean and precise. The acidity is ripe and well integrated, the balance between fruit, spice and texture simply remarkable.
Finish
Long, aromatic and characterised by a pleasant, dry-spicy tannin structure. The finish remains lively and fresh – a wine that lingers in the memory.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Predominantly Riesling with a proportion of Pinot Blanc from the communes of Riquewihr and Beblenheim. Around two weeks of maceration time on the skins lends the wine its characteristic texture and colour. The wine was aged in used demi-muids and pièces – oxidatively, but in a controlled manner, with the aim of maximum aromatic complexity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The Ambre Jaune is a companion for culinary adventurers. It harmonises beautifully with John Dory with pepper artichokes, pink radish and broad beans with maltaise sauce as well as with vegetarian creations such as pea ravioli with wild garlic and mint or turnip fagottini with miso-marinated aubergines and galangal broth. The phenolic structure and spice make it an ideal partner for complex, umami-rich dishes.
Special Features
An orange wine from Alsace that demonstrates the region has far more to offer than conventional Riesling. Jean-Louis Trapet, renowned for his biodynamic philosophy in Burgundy, brings the same care to his Alsatian wines. The Ambre Jaune is a bold, distinctive wine – no compromise, but a clear statement for artisanal vinification and natural winemaking.
