Tasting note
- Colour & appearance
- Deep cherry red with bright, youthful reflections. Despite its depth of colour, it appears translucent and vibrant in the glass – an initial hint of the lightness that defines this wine.
- Nose
- An unexpected, fascinating aromatic profile: dark chocolate takes centre stage, yet it is neither sweet nor opulent, but rather cool and precise. Beneath lie beetroot, earthy tones, fresh almonds and a delicate herbal note. Blackcurrant and sour cherry complete the picture – dark and light at once, like an interplay of grape varieties.
- Palate
- On the palate, the chocolate recedes while the earthiness remains. Fine, slightly bitter undertones carry the wine; the tannins are restrained yet perfectly judged. Juicy, elegant and light-footed – a red wine with remarkable drinkability that, despite its origins in the warm south, exudes coolness and transparency. Garnacha and Cariñena truly dance a pas de deux here: light and dark, sweet and sour, playful and precise.
- Finish
- Clean and earthy, with lingering freshness and a fine saline note reminiscent of the gypsum in the soil. No heavy finale, but a clean, precise closing chord.
- Terroir & origin
- The grapes come from Cornudella de Montsant, the northernmost and coolest village in the appellation, at around 700 metres above sea level. The vines – 50 to 60 years old – are rooted in red clay interspersed with gypsum veins. The altitude ensures cool nights and preserves the grapes’ freshness. Montsant lies directly adjacent to the famous Priorat, yet Tatjana Pećerić is convinced that the finest vineyard sites of her homeland are in no way inferior to those of its neighbour.
- Grape variety & vinification
- A 50/50 blend of Grenache (Garnacha) and Carignan (Cariñena) – the two classic grape varieties of the region. The Garnacha ferments with wild yeasts in clay amphorae, whilst the Cariñena undergoes spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks. No destemming, no pumping over: the grapes are solely foot-trodden, and the maceration is as gentle as an infusion. After six months of separate ageing, both components are blended and bottled unfiltered. Oak is never used.
- Food recommendations
- The earthy aromatics and slight bitterness make this wine a versatile everyday wine: cured beef fillet with smoked celeriac and beech mushrooms echoes the dark, earthy tones. Pan-fried monkfish with pepper jus demonstrates that this red also pairs beautifully with robust fish dishes. And beetroot carpaccio with lamb’s lettuce and fried goat’s cheese mirrors the wine’s aromatic profile on the plate.
- Special features
- Behind Coreografia stands Tatjana Pećerić, a former Serbian folk dancer who now works as head winemaker at Terroir al Límit in the Priorat. Her own project – the name means “choreography” – is a tribute to her first career: wines that function like dances, precise and weightless at once. The Pas de deux 2018 is the first vintage of this project and already ranks among the highest-rated wines of the Montsant.
