Wine Description for Siuralta Morat 2017 by Vins Nus

Colour & Appearance
Intense purple-red with violet reflections and an impenetrable black core – a wine that makes no visual compromises.
Nose
Alfredo Arribas‘ Syrah cuvée (90% Syrah, 10% Viognier) presents itself uncompromisingly powerful: black cherry and pomegranate seeds on the opening, followed by a subtle reductive note that lends tension to the wine. Behind this unfolds the full Syrah spice with blackcurrant leaves, blackberry foliage, black pepper, dark chocolate and a fascinating note of dried beef – fully ripe and aromatically concentrated.
Palate
Here the zero-intervention approach shows its strength: The juicy, dark fruit appears surprisingly cool despite its fullness, carried by present minerality and the deliberate absence of sulphur. With considerable grip, the wine dynamically gathers pace, flows across the palate with good speed and unites power and spice with moreish freshness – hedonistic, yet never heavy.
Finish
Persistently spicy with lingering fruit and mineral echo.
Terroir & Origin
The vines grow on red clay at an impressive 780 metres altitude in Montsant – a site that lends the wine its characteristic freshness and minerality, despite its Mediterranean origin.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Zero-intervention winemaking without any sulphur addition – Alfredo Arribas gives the Syrah (complemented by 10% Viognier) free rein and creates an authentic, unadorned expression of terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled venison noisettes with rosemary cherries, monkfish wrapped in bacon on a dried tomato ragout with black olives, or fresh goat’s cheese with blackberry coulis and black walnuts.
Special Features
An uncompromising natural wine from extreme altitude that demonstrates how zero-intervention wines can unite structure, power and drinkability – 13% alcohol that feels lighter on its feet than one might expect.
