Tasting note
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale lemon yellow with vibrant green reflections and a silvery fading rim – youthful, clear, precise. A wine that already promises tension in the glass.
- Nose
- Ethereal, floating, almost meditative. Rémi Jobard’s 2023 Les Genevrières does not open – it emerges. Floral overtones of white flowers and linden blossom circle above a cool, saline depth. Beneath: citrus peel, a hint of sea breeze, something chalky. One waits, and it begins to speak softly. Those with patience will be rewarded.
- Palate
- Dense, forceful, of remarkable inner tension. The crystalline acidity sets the pace – vertical, precise, relentless. Citrus, green apple and a fine minerality like freshly broken limestone shape a wine that carries more information than its liquid substance can actually hold. Not a gram of excess, no weakness – only concentration and direction.
- Finish
- Long, citric-saline, orchestral. The finish is cathedral-like in its silence – with a final, unexpected hint of wild fennel pollen that lingers for minutes. A finish that poses questions.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vineyard site Les Genevrières lies south of Meursault at 260–300 m elevation with south-east exposure, nestled between the renowned Premier Crus Perrières and Charmes. The soil of stony limestone marl with fine gravel and pebbles is the foundation of this cutting minerality – unmistakable, incorruptibly Burgundian.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Chardonnay, selectively hand-harvested, gently pressed and spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts. Aged for twelve months in large Stockinger barrels and used pièces (maximum 20% new), followed by six months maturation in stainless steel tank for freshness and precision. Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur addition – craftsmanship without compromise.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A wine of this tension demands partners of equal standing: sole meunière, lobster with tarragon butter or a classic Poulet de Bresse à la crème. A mature Comté or a simple dish of scallops with saffron sauce would also frame its minerality beautifully.
- Special Characteristics
- Rémi Jobard belongs to Meursault’s quiet elite – no fuss, no compromises. His approach to large wooden vessels and stainless steel tank instead of new barrique is a commitment to terroir transparency. The 2023 vintage, often underestimated, reveals its cooler, nervous side here – a wine for the patient, which will only fully come into its own in five to ten years.
