Wine Description for Gorgollassa d’es Monjos 2019 by Mesquida Mora

Colour & Appearance
Pale, luminous cherry red with youthful freshness – a wine that promises lightness and elegance at first glance.
Nose
Captivating and precise in equal measure. Red currants, raspberries and sour cherries dominate the aromatic profile, underpinned by a fascinating herbaceous note of blackberry bushes and mint. A hint of buckwheat adds unexpected tension, whilst a subtle lactic tone frames the fruit without overwhelming it. Pure, unadorned authenticity.
Palate
Racy, taut, invigorating – this wine embodies Mesquida Mora’s characteristic style perfectly. The tart red berries return on the palate, carried by a finely chiselled acidity that gives the wine structure and drinking flow. Delicate and juicy at once, the Gorgollassa displays a remarkable balance between power and finesse. With its 12.5% alcohol, the wine remains featherlight and elegant.
Finish
Medium length, fresh and characterised by red berry notes. The acidity remains present through to the end, leaving a stimulating, clear impression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Gorgollassa was almost forgotten – it was only in 2011 that this autochthonous Mallorcan grape variety was officially permitted again. Barbara Mesquida Mora is among the pioneers dedicated to reviving traditional island varieties. Only 1,111 bottles were produced from the 2019 vintage – a wine of rarity and historical significance.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The crisp acidity and red fruit make this wine an ideal companion for braised eel with savoy cabbage, cod stew with olives and capers or roasted celeriac with herb vinaigrette. Serve it lightly chilled at 11-12°C with fish dishes or at room temperature at 15-16°C with vegetarian fare.
Special Features
A wine that makes history: part of the rescue of an almost extinct grape variety. The strictly limited edition of just 1,111 bottles makes every bottle a special testament to Mallorcan wine culture and the commitment of a new generation of winemakers.
