Nose

This pure Carignan from Priorat is dark and structured with impressive aromatic depth. Liquorice and dark chocolate dominate at first, accompanied by juniper berries and an earthy, almost mineral note. Cassis, elderberries and ripe blackberries emphasise the dark fruitiness. The Mediterranean terroir is revealed through thyme, black olives, pine and rosemary. Floral accents of violets, lavender and pansies lend the wine surprising elegance. In the background, cinnamon, plum jam and roasted coffee beans are waiting to be discovered.

Palate

Am Gaumen erfüllt der Somni 2016 die hohen Erwartungen der Nase vollständig. Kraftvoll und druckvoll präsentieren sich saftige, dunkle Früchte mit intensiver Konzentration – und das trotz Alfredo Arribas’ erklärtem Ziel, Weine mit zurückhaltender Extraktion zu erzeugen. Die kühle Mineralität des Llicorella-Schieferbodens bildet ein elegantes Fundament und verleiht dem Wein pure Finesse. Wacholder, Lakritz und Schokolade werden im Glas immer präsenter, während Sauerkirsch-Aromen süß-säuerliche Kontrapunkte setzen. Der Nachhall ist lang, intensiv und perfekt ausbalanciert zwischen floralen, fruchtigen und würzigen Komponenten. Ein Wein mit außergewöhnlicher Trinkfreude.

General information

The Somni 2016 comes from Priorat, one of Spain's most prestigious wine regions. Portal del Priorat was founded by Catalan architect Alfredo Arribas, who has been practising biodynamic viticulture for around 15 years. The 100% Carignan vines grow on the characteristic Llicorella slate soils, some of which are over 100 years old. The wine contains 14.0% alcohol by volume and is vinified dry.
